1s vs Blues Away

The 1s fought hard and had fun today against a strong Blues team. Although the final score was 15-7 to Blues, the team came away on a high with plenty to feel positive about – possession was roughly even despite the score suggesting otherwise.  Well done to all who played.

Matches Sunday 13th November 2016

The morning started with a 1min silence for Remembrance Sunday, followed by the 1sts match against a strong Clapham side.  The match was evenly fought with some excellent goals from both teams, but Clapham pulled away towards the end leading to a 13-7 loss for West London.

The 2nds match against Hawks followed swiftly afterwards, with a strong fight from all players – especially the tired few who had already played a whole match! The final score was 18-12 to Hawks.  Well done to all players.

Clubs and Colleges Tournament

On Saturday 29th October 2016 we played in the South East Clubs and Colleges Tournament hosted by Putney at Wormwood Scrubs.  The format this year was a round robin since there were only 6 teams entered.  West London entered a mixed 1s & 2s team. We beat Hawks, Central London and Clapham, losing to Putney and only very narrowly to Blues, to come 3rd overall. Congratulations to everyone who played!

Congratulations to the 1st team today on their 15-3 win over Newbury Royals.  The play was much more coordinated as a team rather than just individuals this week, and the attacking unit were able to implement some moves practised in training on Thursday. Well played also to the 2s against East Grinstead in the second match of the day.  Despite losing 18-4 the team fought right until the end and never let their heads go down.

Match Report

1st Team vs Newbury – 11th October 2015

West London started out strong against the Newbury team at our home ground, Wormwood Scrubs. Our defensive unit was working well and preventing many of the drives by strong Newbury players from resulting in goals, helped by some fantastic saves from goalie Prina. Our midfield transitions and attacking play resulted in several goals, despite a number of new players to our team and a lack of experience together. The score at half time was 4-2 to West London, but the Newbury team were beginning to gain momentum.

That momentum continued into the second half and Newbury gained back ground, with several drives from behind goal resulting in them leading by one goal. After a time out pause to regroup, West London came back fighting and determined to win every ground ball, and our play improved. We regained the lead, but Newbury promptly drew even again, until our final goal was scored by Hannah with 15 seconds left on the clock. Final score was 8-7 to West London, our first win of the season!

West London MVP voted by the team was Helly Muir.

Match Reports 26th September 2015

Huge congratulations to everyone who played in the games this weekend especially our new members who were playing their first games for the club. Hope to see you all at training on Thursday. Brief match summaries are below:

1st Team V Centaurs
The 1st team had a tough game against Centaurs at their home ground, Wormwood Scrubs. Centaurs are always in the top 3 in the league so we knew we would have to work hard. The game started in a scrappy fashion and we were showing we had just as much, if not more, fight than our opponents. Goals were going in on both sides and our defensive unit played fantastically to limit Centaurs to only 5 goals at half time. After the break, we came out fighting hard and got the first two goals of the half. With five minutes to go, we were two goals down but just lost the flow of the game to concede two late goals. Final score – 11-7. There are so many positives to take from this game, most noticeably, the fight shown from the entire squad all over the field.
West London MVP (voted by the team) – Kelly Leaper
West London MVP (voted by Centaurs) – Helly Muir

2nd Team V Caterham

The 2nds had an exciting game against Caterham. The final score was 14-4 to Caterham, but there was some exceptional play by everyone and if we continue to work as well together it should be an exciting season! V scored two goals, Grace Howarth scored one goal and Sarah Hersum scored a goal.
Man of the match chosen by West London was Kathryn Dally
Man of the match chosen by Caterham was Vanessa Gater.
